Hey guys Zboy365 here with my NCAA 14 Top 5 Run Plays this year! Run Free was the campaign motto for EA Sports and they aint kidding man…The running game is kinda broken for the top teams and especially some hidden gem Running Backs in the game! Running is important this year because there is so much on offense but the passing game is all the same thing virtually. So let’s look at the NCAA 14 Top 5 Run Plays!
5. The Stretch
The stretch was super powered last year and is toned down a bit this year but still a dominant run. Not because of its blocking or big play ability but because it gives you a read or option on offense. If you see your opponent is playing far outside your tackles then you can audible to something else. If they constantly let the stretch go outside you can have a great day confusing them IN THE RUN GAME.
4. Wing Over Pistol – HB Counter
This is more of an entire formation/specific run play. The Wing Over Pistol is a super dominant run formation this year. We get our TE to move over to the strong side creating a huge mismatch with our Trips WRs on offense. The counter run then pulls 2 linemen from the strong side back to the weakside for an awesome run play! Again Read the D, if they stack up on the strong side you know you are in business. If they over stack the weakside, then flip the run play with the Right Analog Stick to run it to the side with all the blockers! You can also motion the Wing TE over to the Weak side for help. (Beware, your inside TE is not an illegible receiver because the WR is on the line. )
3. HB Dive/Inside Zone
Another two for one special, the HB Dive from Spread Flex is one of my FAVORITE RUNS. I love to run this on my opponents if they show they will not crowd the box. You will always win a 5 on 5 situation for blocking and gash up the middle. It literally forces them to change their defense to base align or an actual blitz with LBs. The Inside Zone is basically the HB Dive from other Gun Formations (look for them in plays like Trips Offset anything with the word Offset will have inside zone). This is where you open up with the pass or audible to my next favorite run!
2. HB Counter from the Shotgun
HB Counters are great runs this year and murderous from the Shotgun. They pull all CPU defenders a step in and then get the seal on the edge and blockers up field for the run. I feel like this may be the over powered run of the year because you can run this even when defenders are outside the box. I mix this in with the Inside Zone and different gun formations. In a trips Gun you can drag away defenders to make an easy Counter read or use the WRs as blockers!
1. Buck Sweep/Strong Power
This play is awesome this year. You get double guards pulling for an ultimate block around the edge. They seal the edge beautifully and then you Accelerate around edges for huge yardage. Pistol formations have “Strong Power” Which is basically Buck Sweep. I can’t tell you how many big runs this has busted open for me. This will often get opponents paranoid to make sure their guys are in position to defend this and this opens up the PA Pass, Counters, and other plays!
BONUS PLAY
Jumbo Z Pistol – Read Option
This play is unique because on Read Options, you have to read the last defender on the line of scrimmage to either hand it off or keep it. Well this formation is so overpowered that there is no read man! Go into practice mode and see for yourself. The Wing TE will block what would be the read man which gives you the green light to keep the ball for a cheesy touchdown! Helped me a lot on the Goal Line!
