Hey everyone, welcome back to our channel! In today’s video, we’ll be talking about some exciting news in the world of baseball. New York Yankees All-Star infielder DJ LeMahieu is heading into the 2023 spring training season with a full bill of health. After dealing with a nagging foot fracture injury for a large part of last season, LeMahieu has opted for a nonsurgical recovery plan and is feeling 100 percent ahead of his fifth season in New York. According to ESPN’s Marly Rivera, LeMahieu suffered a fracture in the sesamoid bone in his right big toe that led to ligament damage in his second toe. Despite having multiple cortisone shots throughout the second half of the season, the discomfort continued, and it eventually caused him to miss a handful of games over the second half of the year. LeMahieu said at the Yankees’ spring training facility in Tampa on Sunday, “It was definitely under consideration. But we weren’t sure if we wanted to do surgery on the big toe, the second toe or both. It was just never clear like, ‘This was going to be it, and this is the rehab, and this is how it’s going to feel,’ so I think I made the right decision.” LeMahieu’s return is critical for the Yankees, who are coming off a disappointing 2022 season where they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The team will need LeMahieu’s bat and versatility to help them get back to the postseason. Despite his nagging injury and missing two consecutive postseasons, LeMahieu is motivated to be back on the field and play at the highest level. “That’s the worst feeling. Just kind of gives you motivation to do everything I can to stay on the field and be myself,” LeMahieu said. “I’m used to playing through stuff my whole career. But it was so limiting that I couldn’t be myself, and that was extremely frustrating.” LeMahieu batted .261/.357/.377 with 12 homers and 46 RBIs in 467 at-bats last season. While those numbers aren’t earth-shattering, LeMahieu’s ability to play multiple positions and his consistency at the plate make him a valuable asset to the team. The Yankees have a lot to prove this upcoming season, and having a healthy DJ LeMahieu will certainly help their cause. With LeMahieu’s return, the team will be able to put their best foot forward and try to get back to the top of the American League. And that’s it for today’s video.
