WATCH: Recap and Highlights of Dallas and San Francisco

NFL

The game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers was a hard-fought battle from start to finish. The match lacked the excitement and skill that characterized the playoff showdowns of the 80s and 90s, which featured legendary players such as Joe Montana, Steve Young, Roger Craig, and Jerry Rice for the 49ers and Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin for the Cowboys. Despite this, the 49ers ultimately emerged victorious, with a 19-12 score, and advanced to the NFC Championship Game.

This result is significant in that rookie quarterback Brock Purdy will now become the fourth quarterback drafted in the 6th round or later, or undrafted, to reach a Conference Championship in his first season as a starter, joining Dieter Brock (1985), Kurt Warner (1999), and Tom Brady (2001). Meanwhile, the Cowboys’ streak of playoff appearances without a conference title game appearance now extends to 12, the longest in NFL history.

The 49ers added another field goal, and despite a final push from the Cowboys, led by quarterback Dak Prescott, the Dallas’ final drive did not progress beyond their own 30-yard line. The 49ers, as the second seed, will now travel to face the NFC’s top seed, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the quest for a spot in the Super Bowl.
