Brady was a backup his first two seasons. He threw five passes in 1996 and 15 passes in 1997. 1998 was finally Brady’s chance to shine as a starter in his third year. He completed 200 passes for 2,427 yards with 14 TD’s and 10 INT’s. In 1998 Brady started every game his junior year and won 10 of his final 11. The legend of Brady as the comeback kid began against Penn State. UM trailed by 10 in the final minutes before Brady took over to lead UM to the 31-27 victory. Brady thew for 2,217 yards with 16 TD’s and 6 INT’s in 1999. UM finished 10-2. Brady’s biggest moment came in the 2000 Orange Bowl that season. Brady’s final game at UM would prove to be his best on the national stage as Michigan faced Alabama. UM went down 14-0 before Brady led the comeback to make it 14-14. Alabama then went up 28-14 in the second half before Brady led another comeback to tie it at 28. The Orange Bowl went into overtime where Brady threw a TD pass to put UM up by 7. Alabama answered with a TD of its own, but somehow missed the extra point giving UM the 35-34 win in Brady’s last game.
