Texas Longhorns Football Schedule: Texas Longhorns vs. Baylor Bears (2021)

Ari Temkin of SiriusXM and Orangebloods.com is joined by David Smoak from sicem365.com to discuss the Week 9 matchup between Texas Longhorns and Baylor Bears in Waco, TX.

They discuss the latest Big 12 matchup for the Texas Longhorns, when Texas football travels to Waco to take on the 6-1 Baylor Bears at McLane Stadium in Week 9 of the college football season.

Texas football is coming off of bye week after back to back losses in which the Horns blew 4th quarter leads, first a a stunning 55-48 loss to Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, TX. Then, the following week the Longhorns fell 32-24 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Austin, TX after leading 24-16 heading into the 4th quarter. Texas surrendered 118 yards on the ground to Oklahoma State Cowboys RB Jaylen Warren in the 4th quarter alone. Warren had 20 carries for 75 yards in the first three quarters, but the OSU running back went wild on the Texas defense in the final frame to the tune of 13 carries for 118 yards.

The Baylor Bears are a major surprise story out of the Big 12 in year 2 under Dave Aranda. Baylor football went 2-7 in Dave Aranda’s first year and were 9th in the Big 12, but have turned it around in year 2 and are 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play in 2021.

Aranda has leaned on his strength of defense with stars at all three levels including Jalen Pitre, Terrel Bernard and Apu Ika. On offense, Baylor has been one of the top rushing teams in college football, they’re 12th in the nation in rushing with 5.5 yards per attempt. The Longhorns strength is also rushing the football, they’re 8th at 5.6 yards per rush attempt. The difference between Baylor and Texas is in their pass offenses and of course, Texas Longhorns rush defense. Texas is 112th out of 130 teams in FBS college football giving up 5.2 yards to opponents per rush attempt. They’re 97th in yards per game at 434.9 and they’ve given up a whopping 470.3 yards per game in their last three contests. Texas will need to show defensive improvements to force Baylor to beat them through the air, something Baylor QB Gerry Bohanon has not been asked to do throughout the 2021 season.
