Texas football Overreaction Monday: Worst press conference of Sarkisian era as UT schedule heats up

Geoff Ketchum, publisher of Orangebloods.com and Anwar Richardson, Texas Longhorns beat reporter for Orangebloods.com overreact to Steve Sarkisian’s monday press conference after the Texas football bye week. Texas will visit the Baylor Bears Week 9 of the college football season. Texas is 4-3 in the 2021 season and 2-2 in Big 12 Conference play, while Baylor is 6-1 and 3-1 in Big 12 play.

Anwar Richardson’s first overreaction from Steve Sarkisian’s Monday press conference ahead of their Week 9 match-up with Baylor Bears is that Sark is still trying to figure out his team. He’s still not sure seven games into the season about his team. “What I heard was a lot of learning on the fly, I hear a lot of trying to figure it out as they go along. If you are a Texas fan, you’ve got to hope that they’ve figured out something this bye week because you’ve got two big road games coming up.”

Geoff Ketchum agreed and said the press conference from Sark was reminiscent of many other previous press conferences from former Texas Longhorns head coaches: Tom Herman and even Charlie Strong. All coaches use clichés and metaphors for seasons, but Steve Sarkisian has clearly leaned into something that has been a sore spot for Texas fans because of how normal this has been for Texas football over their struggle the last decade.

Ketch and Anwar also discuss having an appropriate fear for the Texas Week 9 opponent, Baylor Bears. The Bears are good at running the football with Abram Smith and Tresten Ebner and just like Texas football with Bijan Robinson. However, the main difference between the Baylor Bears and Texas Longhorns is on the defensive end, where Dave Aranda’s crew is very good at stopping the run, while Texas has struggled mightily especially against the run.

Even though Baylor won only 2 games in 2020, the Baylor Bears football team is one of the top teams in the big 12 in 2021. Texas is 0-2 so far against the top 4 teams in the conference of Oklahoma football and Oklahoma State. They’ll take on Baylor this week with Iowa State Cyclones still to come on the 2021 Texas footbal schedule.
