Kohima, Sept 16: Taurus today lifted the coveted champion title of 4th Men’s Open Basketball Trophy 2022, organized by Oriental College, Kohima.
Taurus defeated Arintin Ventures by 77 points to 58 points in final match to lift the champion title and walked away with running trophy, Rs. 50,000 and certificates.
Runner –up team Arintin Ventures received Rs. 30,000 along with running trophy and certificate.
Nukshizulu Pongen of Taurus bagged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and received Rs. 5000, certificate and trophy.
Earlier, Arintin Ventures defeated Orca in the first semi final by 55 points to 39 points while Taurus defeated Netters –A by 79 points to 72 points in the second semi finals.
15 teams joined the tournament, which commenced on September 13.
This tournament was also part of the year long silver jubilee celebration of Oriental College, Kohima.
The next 5th edition of the tournament will take place in 2023.
Visetonuo Kire, Assistant Director, School Education, Nagaland graced the valedictory session as the guest of honour and gave away prize to the winners.
Addressing the valedictory session, Kire thanked Oriental College for the yeoman service rendered to the youngsters through the past 25 years.
“This college is growing from strength to strength,” she maintained.
Playing sports , especially team sports, is one of the best means of building purposeful and meaningful relationships. Winning or Losing in sports is not at all important, but the happiness resulting from participating and witnessing a sport is a highly cherished trophy, she added.
“Whether you win or not, you all are winners. Your active and continued participation in sports will pay you rich dividends in the form of your physical and mental fitness, your relationship and social well being and above all it will increase your happiness,” she said.
The valedictory session was chaired by Vizotuo Thorie while vote of thanks was proposed by Kevichiituo Kuotsu.
