“This was a historic year in college football. The country got to enjoy its first ever year of college football playoffs. And, I will say it, it was about time I cannot claim full credit. I will point out that I pushed for a playoff system in 2008.”

“it was an exciting season from start to finish, and to say Ohio State’s path seemed improbable at times would be an understatement. At one point last year the buckeyes were ranked 23rd in the nation, but they kept on battling back. But they held on with not one not two but three quarterbacks.”

“Everybody’s gonna go through ups and downs in their life, but how folks handled it, how quarterbacks on those teams supported each other, that’s what every organization wants to see is people standing up for each other. And, not only did they do it on the field, but they made Ohio proud off the field. Each year, the Buckeyes pay off their good fortune with more than a thousand hours of community service and charitable efforts in Central Ohio.”

STORYLINE:
President Barack Obama is honoring the national champion Ohio State football team, taking just a little bit of credit for the new playoff system that the Buckeyes mastered.
Ohio State won the first College Football Playoff in January, beating Oregon in the title game.
Obama noted that he first supported a playoff to determine college football’s national champion during his first campaign for the White House, in 2008.
He jokingly talked about throwing his political weight behind the idea.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer thanked the president, noting that the Buckeyes probably wouldn’t have been eligible to play for the title under the previous system.
More than 200 guests and dignitaries packed the White House East Room for Monday’s ceremony, including former Ohio State players Archie Griffin and Cris Carter.
