A Massachusetts State Police trooper sentenced last month in the police overtime scandal has now had his pension taken away by the state retirement board.
Daren DeJong, the last of eight troopers sentenced on federal charges in the scandal first exposed by 5 Investigates, forfeited his annual pension of more than $76,000.
He also had to return pension payments he received since May, excluding the money he contributed to his retirement over the years.
DeJong pled guilty to falsifying paperwork to receive $14,000 in overtime pay for hours he did not work. He is cooperating with state prosecutors in the overtime case and has agreed to testify at the trial of a state police lieutenant scheduled to begin in the Fall.
