Live Edge Waterfall Storage Bench with Box Router Sled Planer, Step 6, Michigan Woodworking Artists
– Step 6:
The resin pour slabs need to be leveled. We do not own a large enough planer to run these through. A router sled is our best solution. After a couple days of working on the project, Brett ordered a larger bit.
We’ll keep going with this small bit until the larger one arrives.

– Step 5:
We have another long slab we split apart. This will be the top and side of the bench. After this resin pour is set we’ll head out to the garage for a router sled leveling of both sections.

– Step 4:
The bottom of the bench has been poured and removed from its resin mold.
We have the longer slab pieces that will be cut into the top & side of the bench.
The custom mold is created with whatever wood we have lying around, silicone, and packing tape.
We’ll let the silicone set up and pour the resin next.

– Step 3:
The resin is set and ready to be removed from the mold.
We really sealed the mold to avoid any resin leaks.
Now, Brett gets to peel, pull, and chisel the silicone, tape, and nails out of the mold.
We have a bench bottom ready for the router sled. The top and side are still connected and will be poured together.
We’ll get the mold ready and complete another resin pour soon.

– Step 2:
Time to pour resin.
We’re starting with the bottom board.
This was poured in multiple layers & the last few were swirled for a pattern. We’ll see if they show once the board is leveled.

– Step 1:
Measure and mark for slab centers.
Circular saw to rough cut lengths.
The band saw to split the slabs.
The first piece is set in place and ready for a resin pour.

In the fall of 2022, we made a kiln and filled it with freshly milled slabs. Two lots were cleared north of us and we couldn’t watch them put these huge trees into the dumpsters. The wood has been drying in the kiln for about 8 weeks. Let’s see how many projects we can complete from this first run!

So far we’ve made 2 butcher blocks:

6 Handled Serving Trays:

1 Moon Slice Serving Tray/Cutting Board:

4 Sets of Slice Coasters:

2 Sets of Heart Coasters:

Now, the bench.

As always Thank you so much for watching our progress!
