This week on Gem Session with the Idaho Underground Sports Network, AJ and Shane from EBC Media and The Gametime Guru, are chatting it up about all things football as we move to the ‘play-in’ games one week before the state football tournament.
Max Preps really has outdone themselves once again. The rankings seem to be confusing so we’re here to (hopefully) clear up some of that confusion, but just in case we don’t make any sense, please see the breakdown below…
Meridian and Eagle = Automatic Births to State
Rocky vs Borah – Winner is automatic birth to state
Middleton vs Kuna – Winner is automatic birth to state
Mt View vs Capital – Winner is automatic birth to state
Nampa vs Centennial – Winner is automatic birth to state
LOSERS of those games or any NON-QUALIFIER (i.e. possibly Owyhee), will be based on their standing within Max Preps… So if ALL the ‘favorites’ win this week, then Owyhee could make it to State. IF ANYONE UPSETS (Borah, Kuna, Centennial, Capital), Owyhee would probably be out because the loser of those games would be ahead of them for an at-large.
What this basically means is throughout the regular season in the SIC, you are basically playing for 1-5 in your division, because even if you finish 5th in your division, you have a chance at a ‘play-in’ game to get an automatic birth to the state playoffs. It’s bonkers!
On top of chatting about Max Preps today, we’ll be chatting about the Eagle Mustangs and Meridian Warriors as they will be facing off for the District Championship at Meridian on Friday night! It’s going to be a chilly one on Friday, but we’ll be there to provide the coverage for that game! Do the Mustangs have what it takes to keep on the winning train right now?
We also want to give Nampa a MAJOR shoutout! The Bulldogs over there, have proven themselves to be VERY ready for the 5A level of football and find themselves in the playoff mix right now! Behind Carrillo and Navarro, this team is looking scary and can cause matchup problems for a lot of teams!
Can anyone play ‘upset’ this week? Could Centennial find themselves in the playoffs? What about Capital and even Kuna? It’s going to be an interesting week of football, and we’re looking forward to breaking it all down for you guys today!
