How I Inflate And Recycle Old Flat And Dead Tennis Balls Reduce Trash And Save Money!

Tennis balls are so bad for the environment so I think at the very least we should all do our best to use them as long as possible.

Doing what I did in my video is very simple as long as you get a few
things right so here is some advice.

1) I use a 21g needle and cut it about 9-10mm long to reduce the chances of it breaking when inserting into the ball and sharpen the tip
with a sharpening stone or similar. Thinner needles get clogged
quickly and thicker needles create a bigger hole that is harder to
seal. Get some silicon tubing from the hardware store to put it on
the base of the needle to make it a little thicker and create a better
air tight seal for attaching to a tire pump preferably with a tension
gauge.

2) For the sealant I use a white wood glue and mix a little water with
it to thin it just enough to pass through the needle with a little
less resistance but try to keep it thick enough to block the hole as
quickly as possible. Putting too much sealant is not good because it
will take forever to dry but too little is also not good since it may
not seal the hole. I found out that 1mL is a good amount but if you
can try other quantities. If you find a glue that works better please
let me know.

3) Try to use balls without water inside since the wood glue is water
soluble. In Japan mostly the Dunlop Fort balls have lots of water
inside but most other types do not so I just try to stay away from
Dunlop Fort balls. I have tried to drain water by poking the ball,
pumping up with air, and then letting it sit on a bottle cap with the
hole facing down letting the air push the water out. It drains the
ball pretty well but I think there is still moisture left inside and
you have to insert the needle again to pump and seal so the hole gets
bigger and your chances of successfully sealing the hole is much
lower.

4) The clamps I use are for hanging your sleeping futon outside and
are sold everywhere in Japan. Maybe you can find something similar
where you live.

In the comments let me know how successful you are. In the beginning I made a lot of
mistakes and rarely succeeded but now over 95% of the balls I pump up
keep their air just as long or longer than brand new balls.
