He’s a 20-year-old NASCAR star and an XFINITY SERIES Champion, but before all of that William Byron was a Boy Scout.

Byron earned Eagle Scout status when he was 18. It’s a rank many of the boys scouts he met in Pocono Summit Wednesday are working towards.

Jason Bechdal, a Scout from Clinton County, says he counts Byron as an inspiration.

“It does inspire me to pursue becoming an Eagle Scout,” Bechdal said.

Byron encouraged them to work hard and to follow their hearts. It’s all a part of “Scout Day” at Camp Minsi hosted by the Pocono Raceway.

“We love providing experiences for kids. We love providing experiences for race fans and this is no different,” Ben May, Pocono Raceway President, said.

Byron proved that no matter how big of a star you are, you can always go back to your roots.

“You definitely feel a connection to them. You feel like you know what they went through at this age,” Byron said.

Making each and everyone of these kids’ day and maybe motivating a future NASCAR driver in the making.
