Matthew Morris, of BVMSports, writes:
Fentrell Cypress II is in the transfer portal and he has a lot of teams trying to recruit him. Multiple Power Five schools have been in contact with Cypress II since his announcement leading to a few official visits already. The former Virginia cornerback is considered one of the best players in the transfer portal and is ranked as a four-star.
Cypress II is coming off his best season at Virginia with 39 tackles, an ACC–best 13 passes defended and he didn’t allow a touchdown in coverage all season. He was a second-team All-ACC selection for his performance. Prior to that, he entered Virginia as the No. 91 cornerback in the Class of 2019.
After redshirting his freshman year, he contributed the last three years for the Cavaliers. However, Cypress II has NFL aspirations and the transfer portal gives him the chance to play for one of the best programs in the nation.
For the programs that are interested in Cypress II, it’s the opportunity to get a lockdown corner that can help with any College Football Playoff aspirations the team has. With that in mind, here are the best landing spots for Cypress II.
The Buckeyes will be looking to retake the Big 10 title after losing it to rival Michigan the last two years. Adding Cypress II would be a step in the right direction for Ohio State, especially if Cameron Brown leaves for the NFL draft. For Cypress II, it’s a chance to play for one of the best programs in the country and play for a conference title as well as a CFP appearance. It would also give him the chance to go up against some of the best wide receivers in the country like Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka.
If DJ Turner and Gemon Green leave for the draft then Michigan will be in need of some depth at secondary. Cypress II would give Michigan the depth it needs and a great starting corner to go up against Ohio State’s arsenal of talented wide receivers. He would be joining the reigning back-to-back Big 10 champions. Cypress II would also get the chance to be coached by one of the best defensive coordinators in the country, Jesse Minter, who spent time as a defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
