Following a tense American Football Game at Utica High School in Utica, OH, USA, a fight broke out between the players which stemmed from, of all things, a shovel. I interviewed several people following the incident and believe the following is the story behind the events. Witnesses stated that the visiting team’s (Northridge) coaching staff brought a shovel into the stadium with pre-game warm ups. Several witnesses stated that the coach (or one of the coaching staff) was visibly holding the shovel while Senior Night activities were ongoing and the Northridge team was warming up. In the comments of this video, a viewer, purporting to be a Northridge player, stated, “The shovel has ‘purpose’ written all over it, meaning that every one of our players has a purpose on our team and purpose in the community. The shovel also represents that there is _[sic]_ some things that we need to dig up in our minds and there is something’s _[sic]_ that we need to bury and put behind. After we shook hands the Utica players took the shovel that represents our team from our sidelines. That is when one of our players ran after them and tried to get the shovel back.”
