Until last year, Virginia had improved their win total every season under Bronco Mendenhall. A year after winning the ACC Coastal, the Cavaliers finished just 5-5 but did finish the season by winning four of their final five games. With 14 returning starters, Virginia looks poised to improve on their win total yet again. Brennan Armstrong returns at QB to lead an offense that averaged 30.7 PPG and 260.6 PYPG. If Armstrong can stay healthy and cut down on turnovers (11 interceptions) this offense has a chance to be very special. The defense is what needs the most work for Mendenhall. Virginia allowed 29.6 PPG and had the worst passing defense in the ACC allowing 304.4 PYPG. But with Nick Jackson returning at LB with 105 tackles last year and a senior led secondary, the Cavaliers seem poised to return to the middle of the pack when it comes to ACC defenses. All of that, combined with relatively favorable first two months of the season, adds up to an improvement from last year and another postseason berth for the Cavaliers.
