Clemson’s biggest threat in the ACC resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Mack Brown’s Tar Heels went 8-4 last year and made their first BCS/NY6 caliber bowl game since 1950. Expectations are even higher going into 2021 as UNC returns 16 starters led by on of the best QBs in the country in Sam Howell (4,586 yards, 35 total TDs). The defense returns eight starters and is the area that needs the most improvement if UNC wants to take that next step forward. But with a talented secondary led by Tony Grimes and Storm Duck and Tomon Fox (seven sacks in 2020) leading the LB corps, UNC looks poised to be much better after giving up 29.4 PPG. With a relatively favorable schedule that sees Miami come to Chapel Hill, North Carolina is not only the team to beat in the Coastal, but is also a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.
