Scott Frost is entering his fourth year in Lincoln and after three straight losing seasons, he desperately needs to get to a bowl game.
Nebraska went just 3-5 in 2020 but did have three losses decided by one possession. The major question in 2021 for Nebraska, ironically, is their offense. After averaging just 23.1 PPG and only 190.1 PYPG, the Cornhuskers need Frost to work his magic. QB Adrian Martinez returns along with a solid offensive line, but the pass catching corps is relatively thin. TE Austin Allen will be a reliable target but the main strength will be the rushing game. Nebraska averaged 201.4 RYPG in 2020 (28th nationally). The defense will be the main strength of the team as the Cornhuskers return nine starters form a unit that ranked 50th nationally in total defense. LB Jojo Domann returns as the leading tackler and Cam Taylor-Britt is back to lead the secondary. Nebraska has the talent to tech the .500 mark this season. However the schedule will make it difficult to do so. Road games at Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Minnesota along with drawing Ohio State and Michigan out of the East does not bode well for a team trying to find some sort of stability. It’s a make or break year for Scott Frost and he will need a few lucky breaks to please this passionate fanbase.
