Jeff Monken has led Army to a bowl game in four of the last five seasons and he certainly has the team and the schedule to make it five in the last six in 2021. Army is coming off a 9-3 season where they ranked fourth nationally in rushing yards per game (273) with that dangerous triple option attack. The Black Knights now return five starters on offense including QBs Christian Anderson and Tyhier Tyler and FB Jakobi Buchanan. Army does have to replace four starters on the offensive line, but that is something Monken has been accustomed to during his time in West Point. The defense will once again be the strength of this team. Army returns eight defensive starters fro a unit that ranked second nationally in scoring (14.8 PPG) and passing (160.8 PYPG) and ranked first nationally in total defense allowing just 275.3 YPG. Say all you want that those numbers are because of the weaker opponents Army faces or the run heavy offenses that Army faces, but the Black Knights still found themselves with quality wins over UTSA, Navy, and Air Force last year and they had respectable losses to Cincinnati (24-10) and West Virginia (24-21). The Black Knights are for real and are without a doubt the best out of all the military academies. While they may not match last year’s record, Jeff Monken will have this team in the postseason once again.
