This is a short video of highlights from the Dec. 10, 1978 National Football League game between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass., won by the Patriots, 26-24.
It is from This Week in Pro Football NFL 1978 Week 15 by NFL Films.
At snow-filled Schaefer Stadium, the Patriots won their first East Division championship since 1963, when they were in the American Football League.
New England trailed most of the way, as the Bills’ Roland Hooks and Terry Miller rushed for TDs and Frank Lewis caught a 21-yard scoring pass from Joe Ferguson. The Patriots rallied, though, getting rushing TDs from Sam Cunningham, Steve Grogan, and Horace Ivory. With Buffalo ahead, 24-21, in the late going, Bills coach Chuck Knox made the debatable decision to allow a safety because he feared punting out of his team’s end zone. Thus the Patriots could win with a field goal instead of just tie, and with eight seconds left, David Posey booted the winner from 21 yards out, clinching the 26–24 victory.
