Ohio State vs. Notre Dame – Keys To Victory For OSU:
1) Limit the run- Everyone is hopeful for Jim Knowles to begin his era with a successful defense at Ohio State, and that will need to start up front. With ND starting a new QB in Tyler Buchner, they are not going to ask him to be a hero, so they will rely on their offensive line and run game. OSU needs to limit them to less than 4 yards on first downs to keep them behind the chains.
2) Don’t let Buchner kill you with scrambles. He will get some yards with his mobility, just don’t let them be constant third down conversions, and red zone touchdown scrambles. Doing so will extend drives and wear the defense down when they were otherwise stopped.
3) Ohio State offense- Just Score ENOUGH! Somewhere around 40 points a game almost guarantees a victory. If you look at the history of the Buckeyes in the Shoe during home and home series’, they aren’t very good. Although the defense hasn’t been great in those performances, the offense has lacked the ability to score. Red Zone conversions and yards turning into points must happen. Last year the Buckeyes were great between the 20’s but struggled against tough opponents in the red zone.
4) Offensive line just needs to hold up.
